Fiskardo Divers – A Profesionnal, Ethical & Friendly Dive Centre in the North Kefalonia

Animal Rescue

We regularly rescue and treat animals in difficulty on a voluntary basis, cooperating with the appropriate organizations who will take the animals on if necessary. For example, since starting the Dive Centre in Fiskardo we have rescued then released a Bluntnose sixgill shark (Hexanchus griseus) which was caught in a fisherman’s net; we have rescued a Loggerhead turtle hit by a boat, nursed it back to health, and then released it; we have rescued a baby Monk seal and handed him over to the care of the organisation MOm (The Hellenic Society for the Study and Protection of the Monk seal); as well as numerous dogs, cats and birds over the years.

Each winter we install and organise the refilling of cat feeders around the village of Fiskardo to help the large number of stray cats find food all year round even after the tavernas are closed and the tourists are gone. About 200kg of dry food is distributed in this way every winter, and anyone is welcome to donate whatever they can to this cause.
